When I grow up, I want to be like Nancy Franklin. What a librarian, what a gal.

Nancy was a wonderful, loving and stately woman. Hughes introduced me to Nancy and Johnny more than a decade ago and I was fortunate to have known them. May God bless them, their children, Hughes and the rest of the Franklin, Hughes and Dillard families.

Nancy Franklin was a legend among small community librarians across Texas. She showed us what one dedication and persistence individual could do for a small community. Nancy did things that most rational people thought were impossible in such a small library and she did them with style and grace. The entire library community is the poorer for her passing. There is only one Nancy Franklin and she is now checking out St. Peter's library in heaven.

I met Mrs. Franklin when the Central Texas Library System met at the Mount Calm Civic Center. When she showed us her small library, her devotion to it and those who use it was apparent. I missed her at our last general meeting. It was sad to miss hearing her answer the roll call.
