Gaus, Nancy Rice Entered Eternal Life on December 30, 2013, at her home with her beloved husband Bill and her three children at her side. She was born on October 13 (no need to indicate the year, as a lady never tells) to the late James P. and Catherine M. Rice in Milwaukee, WI. Resident of St. John's on the Lake, former resident of Fox Point and Mequon. Nancy loved family above all else. She is survived by her husband William of 54 years, her son William J. Gaus of Denver, CO, two daughters Mary (James) Bartzen of Madison, WI, and Julie (Michael) Phillips of West Hartford, CT. She is also survived by four grandchildren she cherished and to whose lives she brought great joy: Ellen Jean and Catherine Rice Bartzen and Elizabeth Rice and Michael McGrath Phillips. Nancy is further survived by her sisters Rosemary Steuber and Sheila Russett, brother James (Bernadean) Rice and brother-in-law Paul Gaus. Nancy was loved and will be missed by many relatives and friends. Nancy was an accomplished tennis and bridge player, and she treasured the friends with whom she played. She enjoyed traveling much of the world with her husband, often accompanied by dear friends with whom they shared many memorable adventures. Nancy was also a voracious reader and typical of her incredible generosity, loved giving her books to friends and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Old St. Mary Parish, 836 N. Broadway at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 3, 2014. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at Old St. Mary. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In loving memory of Nancy, memorials may be made to the Marquette Women's Council, 1212 W. Wisconsin Avenue Milwaukee, WI 53233 or the Friends of the Haggerty, Haggerty Museum of Art Marquette University, P.O. Box 1881 Milwaukee, WI 53201-1881.
