Happy Birthday Nancy! Miss you so much!

To Nancy's Family:
I wanted to let you know that I remember Nancy as the President of Fort Worth Classroom Teachers (as it was known back then.) I was a young teacher and getting involved in TSTA/NEA. I looked up to her a lot. She was a very capable leader and devoted so much time and energy not only locally but on the state and national level too. I wanted you to know she is not forgotten. The TSTA web site put a notice up in their news. You might want to view it.

I know...

Mrs. Hilger will forever live in my heart as a kind, loving, gracious, respected lady with a beautiful smile. So many wonderful memories of summers at Barrbrook with the Hilger family. Words cannot describe the joy and love felt growing up. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Vicky Angel Sommerville, Mrs. Angel & Robert

Not too many folks at St Philip live in Haltom City. We live right around the corner from where Nancy was and we thought of her as a very special neighbor and friend. I enjoyed being in night circle with Nancy for many years. Nancy was a great role model for everyone and I feel very blessed to have known her. Janine Williams

Given Oct 8 at St. Philip Church Memorial Service for Nancy Hilger:

There’s sadness and there are tears but they are happy ones.

She was a good Mom to us and she had a lot of obstacles: Dad left about 1959, I was about 8. There were five kids, no child support and just her teacher’s salary. We always ate well in the beginning of the month and poorly at the end. I was the youngest boy so if you see the size of my siblings, imagine competing with them for food!

To me she will always be Mrs. Hilger. She wouldn't want it any other way, and neither would I. I knew her first as one of the teachers at Bonnie Brae Elementary School. When I got to the 6th grade I was assigned Mrs. Morgan, the other 6th grade teacher, but that did NOT matter if she felt I stepped out of line. At that time she was MY teacher. She demanded our respect and returned it in kind. I was also priviledged to have her for a swimming instructor at Barrbrook Park and Pool for 2...

I remember so many good days spent at Barbrook. Your family was blessed with a wonderful mom. We all pray for your family.

I was on the Barrbrook swim team from 1965 to 1969 and cherish my memories of Mrs. Hilger, teaching me from beginner and mentoring me as I improved as a midget AAU swimmer.

Without her, I would never have learned to love compeitive swimming as much.

Nancy and Jimmy, I remember y'all (you were the "big" Barracudas when I joined the team at age 6). I pray your mother's passing was peaceful.

Nancy was "the" church to me when I joined St. Philip years ago. She was dear to me as we made many trips to conferences together. What a great lady
