Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Horn, Nancy E., passed away, Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Sister of Kenneth Horn. Sister-in-law of Nancy J. Horn. Aunt of Chris and Emily Horn. Daughter of the late Walter E. and Evelyn M. Horn.

Following her graduation from William Woods University, Nancy went to work for the Monsanto Company, where she served in various capacities for a number of years. While working at Monsanto, she attended night school to earn her BS degree in Business. After Monsanto, she worked for and retired from Silgan Plastics, a Monsanto spin-off.

In her younger days, she was an avid skier, and in later years, an avid golfer and a member of many golf leagues. She loved to quilt and made many special quilts for loved ones and special friends. Nancy also enjoyed spending time at her chalet at Innsbrook calling it ?her little slice of heaven?. Another memory we have is how she loved her dogs. Suzy, her most recent dog, is also grieving her loss.

Nancy will probably be remembered most for her generosity; there was no limit. She donated her time for numerous charity events, she went out of her way to help friends and neighbors, and she has been a volunteer at Mark Twain Manor Nursing Home for the last 20 years. She especially loved ?gift-giving? at Christmas - she would bake cookies and breads for family and friends, she usually had one or two quilts (that she had made herself) to give away, and sometimes she even found time to embroider something special as a gift. And she always had a gift for everyone. She had a passion for helping others; and the phrase ?it is better to give than to receive? was more than just words for Nancy, it was the way she lived her life.

Services: Memorial service at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Saturday, 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Memorial visitation Friday 4:30 - 8:00 p.m. Friends may sign the family?s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

Not sure what to say?

Nancy and I took ballroom dance lessons at the same studio in the 1980's. We also attended dance parties there and enjoyed talking about the steps we learned and the teachers. I'm glad I had the opportunity to know her. My sympathy goes out to her family.

I will miss Nancy's smiling face and humor every wed. morning at weight watchers. What a gift to know you.

Nancy touched many lives at Mark Twain Manor as a cheerful volunteer. She will truly be missed by many. God bless you angel of God...

I know Nancy will be missed greatly by her brother Ken, his wife Nancy and their children Chris and Emily. Just know you are all in our prayers.

My heart is broken! Nancy was such a wonderful sewing friend. She taught me so much about pressing, pinning and life! She will be missed

Nancy and I often played golf together in the Monsanto Women's Golf Club. She was always so much fun to be with, and it was a delight to know her. I will always remember those many happy times on the golf course. My deepest sympathies to Nancy's family whom she often mentioned with great fondness.

Nancy was a great friend and I treasure dearly MANY great memories. I will miss her friendship, and will remember all the good times.

Nancy was a wonderful quilt buddy. We had so much fun laughing and quilting at Kinderhook. I will miss her! Know that I will keep nancy's family in my prayer.

I met Nancy as a coworker @ Silgan Plastics years ago. She became a really good friend when we bought our chalet @ Innsbrook and shared so many happy times together. She loved life and lived it to the fullest..so happy she retired @ 55 and enjoyed the good life. I know Suzie Q is missing her terribly. Ken and family..our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you.
