SAARI, NANCY JEAN
Nancy passed away August 13, 2002 in Alexandria, Virginia. She was born in Monroe, Michigan on March 4, 1950 to James and Louis Saari. She was the shining star of our family, always concerned for everybody's well being. Nancy was the kindest and most caring person....

I didn't know of Nancy's passing until last year. I was so saddened to hear of this. I attended Sharples and Franklin with her and I've remembered her kindly through the years. She could light up a room with her wonderful smile and she had a very kind spirit. My thoughts go out to her family and friends who must still miss her very much.

I was saddened to hear of Nancy's passing. I went to school with Nancy at Sharples and at Franklin. Many times when I had the opportunity to drive to school, I would pass her on Orcas Street on the way to the bus stop and offer her a ride. We attended several classes together and worked as a team in Mr. Fuji's Art class. She was always cheerful and warm. We went our separate ways after high school, but I would look forward to seeing Nancy at each reunion. We always had lots to catch up...

I had the privilege of working for Nancy at the Seattle Fire Department. I also was the recipient of her many cards, letters and gifts over the years.
When we lost our son, Jeff, in October 2000, Nancy was so supportive in sending flowers, cards and letters of support, sympathy and encouragement.
Our sympathy goes to her brother, Tom, and his family. She wrote so fondly of you.
We have lost a loving, caring, gentle soul.

Nancy and I first started working together in 1974 in the City's Parks Department. She helped get our portion of the City's Summer Youth Employment Program off the ground. I sent her a commendation on September 9, 1975 that reads in part, ". . . Just the knowledge that someone is available to help out in critical situations or expertly handle routine matters is probably the greatest comfort a person can have when reflecting back on their staff. After the past 18 months, I no longer look...

I met Nancy in 1985 and we shared many good times together. We laughed over many meals, and went to many art galleries and films. I can hear her happy giggle to this day. She helped me over many a rough spot in my life, and we spoke on the telephone or corresponded weekly. A visit to the mail box will never be the same. She showed me around D.C. and sent many gifts and notes , some even to my dogs. I will miss her so much, but I am much richer because I knew her. It was a privilege to be...

I recruited Nancy to become my replacement at the Fire Department and to have the privilege of working for Claude Harris. We corresponded often and yes, I was a recipient of her many gifts, notes and good wishes. And, now, may I wish you well and as I think of her, so shall I think of you and you family.
