NANCY B. TANNER

I was Mrs. Tanner's nextdoor neighbor for 25 years, until...as she told me, she embarked on her next journey. She loved her home on Little Switzerland, all of the surrounding nature & Tennessee VOLS football. Even though I was 45 years younger, I considered her a trusted friend & an invaluable source of knowledge, & information. I loved her dearly, & miss her greatly.

So sad to hear that Nancy had passed away. She and Stephen Lyn Bales had recently signed my copy of his book "Ghost Bird..." about Jim Tanners' quest for and study of the Ivory Billed Woodpecker in the 1930s. Although I never met her she was truly a wonderful lady. My condolences to her family and friends.

I have missed seeing Mrs. Tanner as I've been her mail carrier for some years now. I miss seeing her walking up that big hill and often said to myself i hope when I'm her age i can do half the things she can. She was a sweetheart and will be missed! Your family is in my prayers.

I grew up knowing Nancy Tanner through my parents William and Grace Johnson and attended many bird gatherings where she and her husband came, as well attending the same church. The last conversation I had with her was several years ago when we talked of her rare spotting of the woodpecker in Florida. I had seen her on SUNDAY MORNING. she was a lovely lady as was her husband a fine gentleman. I'll miss her presence in this world. What a full life she led! My deepest sympathy. Nancy Park...

Nancy was a mentor and a wonderful friend to me. I will never forget her "conversations with the bishops" at our annual ECW retreat at Dubose. I will miss her humor, her zest for life, her intelligence, and her demands for excellence. We are all blessed because we knew her.

Loved playing bells beside Nancy well past her 90th year. She was a fun table mate. I have missed her in choir these past 2+ years but she continued to come to the concerts when she was able. She will be greatly missed.

Nancy has been the most wonderful neighbor on our hill. She and Jim and their children were already here when we built our house 52 years ago. I will certainly miss her!
