Brothers Nathan and Austin Krissoff grew up river rafting with their father, Bill. The brothers specialized in wild water kayak racing. "I like wild water because it''s really a challenge," Nathan Krissoff told a reporter in 1998. "It takes power and endurance to make it to the bottom of a five-mile course, technical skills to maneuver around the obstacles and a lot of skill to read the river and find the fastest current." Krissoff, 25, of Reno, Nev., was killed Dec. 9 by a roadside bomb in Anbar province. He was assigned to Okinawa, Japan. "He was very focused on things he did. He was an extremely disciplined person, but not in a way that came off as uptight. He always seemed relaxed," said Peter Jamison, a high school friend. Krissoff graduated from Williams College in 1993 as a political science major and a member of the water polo team and swim team, which he captained his senior year. "He was a very special kid in many ways, not just intellectually, but musically, athletically and in his involvement in the community," said Rob Klevan, who coached Krissoff. "He was just one of those gems." He also is survived by his wife, Kris.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you...

Your sacrifice has not been, and will not be, forgotten. To Nathan's family: you are all in my prayers. God bless you and your precious son.

From a Marine Mom and RLS Mom - my daughter, Christiane, was at RLS in the class behind Nathan.
