Nate and I were Platoon Leaders in D/1-63 AR together. Nate was the senior platoon leader and served as a role model and a mentor to me.
I'll never forget when our CO gathered us in the chow tent at FOB Zulu and told us about Nate's death. The silence that followed was deafening and seemed to go on for eternity.
