I had Dr. Gaylin as a professor the first year he was at the University of Maryland. He challenged us with new ideas to consider and he became a trusted friend. His energy and enthusiasm were contageous.

He welcomed me with open arms to the U of Md., he gave me the opportunity and the vision I needed to become the therapist/professor I yearned to be, he was the perfect leader of a dynamite "Camelot" team.

I just came across this entry re Dr. Gaylin's untimely death. I am grateful to him for accepting me into the FMCD Program in its infancy as I returned to college after 13 years as a wife/mother. He was ahead of his time recognizing and mentoring women returning to academia. And he was in the forefront of training therapists to work with families and communities. His teachings influenced my entire adult career.

Ned, you will always be my teacher, my friend and mentor. Your words in class or in private conversations are fresh in my memory. You invited me into your home, your family, your faith. Your guidance and love will forever be missed.
I'm proud to have played a roll in the restoration of your home and office for you and Rita. Knowing your children in their school years, and sitting next to Jed as he played the piano as a high school student, the Scottie dogs, and the hand made holiday cards... you & Rita never forgot. My love to the Gaylin family. God bless you Ned.

I knew Ned from walking dogs in Norwood Park. In addition to a sharp wit, he was also a great encourager and inspiration. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family whom he loved with all his heart and about whom he often spoke. He will be greatly missed and long remembered.

My heart and prayers go out to the Gaylin family, I knew him as a student in the Family Therapy Program at UMCP. His basic lessons remain with me to this day as a clinician. Despite not seeing him in decades, his passing was very upsetting to me. He spoke of his family often and his love for his family was effusive. He will live on in all of us and all we touch for generations to come.

Ned was one of the pivotal persons in my life. I cherish my memories of working with him and Ruth and Bob to help start the MFT Program at UMd. A Camelot moment. He was one of the wisest, kindest, most ethical, most supportive persons I have ever known. Wish I would have been at the service last week. Ellie Macklin

I met Ned on the trail where I saw him on his recumbent bike. He was very generous to offer his extensive knowledge about this type of bicycle that I hoped to get for my husband. He even offered to let my husband try his own bike to see if it was something that appealed. What an unusually kind and generous man and what a terrible loss. Our simpathies to his family and friends in your loss of this good man. Jean and Gil Jackson Bethesda Maryland
