Nefele Belmonte Elefante October 18, 1925 - November 27, 2017 Chula Vista Nefele Belmonte Elefante passed away peacefully on November 27, 2017, approximately 30 hours after her husband, Getulio, passed away. They were married for nearly 64 years of marriage. In life and in death, Nefele and Getulio wanted to be together and their love transcended time. Nefele was born on October 18, 1925 in Santiago Illos Sur, Philippines. Nefele was the eldest of 8 children. She graduated from Philippine Normal College and received a degree in Education and became a teacher.She married Getulio in 1953 and they moved to the United States to begin a new life. Their first daughter, Katherine was born in 1954 and they lived in Seattle, Washington. In 1957, they moved to San Diego, California, where their second daughter Elaine was born in Coronado, California. In 1960 they moved to Chula Vista, California, to raise their daughters. Nefele successfully balanced a career in the civil service and her role as a mother and wife. She was a self-taught and accomplished seamstress, cook, gardener, and crafter. She loved growing flowers, vegetables, and plants. Their first home had a beautiful rose garden and she loved cooking with her fresh vegetables. She retired in 1986 from the Naval Supply Center. She is survived by her children Kathy and Elaine and husband Lito and their furry loved ones Jaxon, Charlie and Cassie, two sisters Raquel and her son Paul, Wenefrida and her husband Mike and their children, and brother Isaias his children, niece Elizabeth Sanchez and her husband Javier, nephews Alex and Philip Belmonte. Viewing will be held at Glen Abbey, Chapel of the Roses on Thursday, December 7 from 5-9 p.m. with a Vigil at 6:00 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to wear a Christmas sweater or hat. Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima on Friday, December 8 at 10:30 a.m. with graveside services immediately following at Glen Abbey. A reception will be held at the Chula Vista Golf Course at 1:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, National Kidney Foundation, San Diego Humane Society or St. Rose of Lima.
