I came to know Mrs. Barton when I worked as a reporter at The Daily Mountain Eagle from 1989-94. She was indeed a great public servant and performed her duties with professionalism, integrity and kindness. Under her leadership, the office staff reflected those same values.
I considered her my friend.
May God hold her in His heart and comfort her loved ones during this time.
