Nell Hurley Gross

I knew Nell twice, about 50 years apart: first she and Sol were our fun neighbors when I was little and they lived on Walton (in the West End of Saint Louis), where their snazzy Thunderbird sports-car was always prominently parked. Much later, I visited Nell in her 90's and discovered that she was very smart (which, as a child, I hadn't known). And nice, gracious, and politically aware. She lived to 106. At age 106, I imagine that no-one is left whom you know from your youth, or to remember...

She was my hero and a simply lovely person and I miss her everyday. She would come to Sedalia just to eat at my restaurant, McGraths. We would always have a bangin time because she was so fun. RIP , Nell. See you soon
