Nell Virginia Bush Jernigan, age 86, of Murfreesboro, TN, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. A native of Cannon County, TN, she was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Cora Lee Bush; husband, Wayne Jernigan; brothers, William and Thomas Bush; grandson, David Jernigan; and close family member, Erick Jernigan.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Ron Harper and Nathan Jernigan will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by her children, Michael Jernigan and his wife Beverly of Beech Grove, TN, Joel Jernigan and his wife Mitzi of Murfreesboro, TN, Melanie Hunt and her husband Pete of Lebanon, TN, Rhonda Cantrell and her husband Charles of Lebanon, TN, and Nathan Jernigan and his wife Jeannie of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Jernigan, Scarlett Freeze and her husband Michael, Michael “Buddy” Jernigan II, Jackie Roberson, Tammy Spooner and her husband Scott, Bradley Pilkerton, Tammy Hopper and her husband Lee, Opie Hunt, Katie Tignor and her husband Robby, Sgt. Seth Cantrell USMC, SSG Caleb Jernigan US Army and his wife Rachel, and Michaela Jernigan; great-grandchildren, Alecia, Jesse “J.D.”, Evan, Ashton, Cheyene, Michael “Wayne”, Jacob, John Marshall, Zachary, Hailey, Drew, Faith, Ryan, Kristen, Daniel, Carter, and Molly Jo; four great-great grandchildren; and brother, Dean Bush of Evansville, IN; along with much loving extended family.
Mrs. Jernigan was a member of Salem Creek Church of Christ. Her faith for the Lord was evident in each and every day of her life. As a devoted wife and mother, her family felt loved and cared for deeply. She served with strength and kindness. Tending to her yard and flowers was her passion. This world was a richer and more beautiful place with her presence.
The family is thankful for the medical care, love and compassion she has received from all the staff assisting her the last several months.
Michael “Buddy” Jernigan, J.D. Gunn, Evan Gunn, Wayne Jernigan, Michael Freeze, Sgt. Seth Cantrell, SSG. Caleb Jernigan, Daniel Tignor, Carter Tignor, Robby Tignor, Charles Cantrell, and Pete Hunt will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Jernigan can be made to the Salem Creek Church of Christ Building Fund, or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro.
