Read MoreIn the 1980s, there were four women who formed the backbone of the Spanish undergraduate language program at UMass-Amherst: Professors Nina Galvin, Sabra MacLeod, Rosalie Soons, and Nelly Gordon. Nelly was the last surviving member of this dedicated, hard-working group, so this is truly the end of an era. I am sad that she is gone, but also very glad that she lived such a long and fulfilling life.

Dina & family, My condolences on the loss of your mom. I remember her fondly from being one of her Spanish students in 4th grade at Crocker Farm! People are amazed when I tell them that I started taking Spanish in the 4th grade (through High School!) because one of my friends' mom came in to teach us!
