Gatewood & Sons Funeral Chapel Obituary

Nelson Kyeremeh Abebrese (49)—affectionately known as Kwame, Abebs, or Nelson—died on
December 30th, 2025 at his residence in Bowling Green, KY. Nelson was born on April 3rd, 1976 in Ghana.
He was the first son of Mr. David Awuah Abebrese (deceased) and Madam Diana Mensah who has three
other children, Shirley, Chris, and Collins. Nelson was an astute businessman with an uncanny work ethic
and will always be remembered for his kindness and generous heart; his benevolence knew no
boundaries: A testimony fondly shared by his family, friends and sympathizers with touching, soothing,
and impactful stories of their encounter and interactions with him.
Nelson attended the KNUST JHS (Kumasi, Ghana) after his basic education at Ahmadiyyah Preparatory
School (Kumasi, Ghana) and later enrolled at Opoku Ware Senior High School (Kumasi, Ghana) as a
business student. He moved to the United States to pursue his tertiary education at Campbellsville
University, KY; later transferred to Western Kentucky University and graduated with a degree in
Accounting.
A profit made from the sale of his first car became the bedrock of his new business venture, paving way
for an industrious and successful career in the sale and marketing of pre-owned vehicles. He became a
business owner by establishing Nelson Auto Sales with dealerships at Old Morgantown Road and
Russellville Road both in Bowling Green, KY. Nelson was a very thoughtful boss who cared deeply for the
welfare of his staff. As a service to his community, he provided relief to so many people with car
problems— either being a simple oil change, flat tire, brakes, or securing financing for a new car, Nelson
was always there to help.
Nelson was a devoted husband to a loving wife, Shirley; a providing and supportive father to Naleya,
Nyla, Sean, David, Jason, and Anaya; and a loving grandfather to Tony. His greatest pride was his family.
He is survived by family, friends, and loved ones— all over the world— who will miss him dearly.
