Read MorePeter, Pam and all your families, I'm sorry to read of Dr. Kiang's passing. Now I vividly remember my kitchen encounters with your dad. I'm not sure why I'm surprised he went to University of Chicago - if I knew, I had forgotten. I wonder if that fact came up in any of our rare conversations at the time I was deciding to do the same and embarking on my brief Hyde Park career.

My mother was diagnosed with melanoma of the eye and I called Nelson on my way back from her doctor at 9PM at night. We could not get appt at Mass Eye and Ear for a week. He spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with me and got her in at 8AM the next morning. He was incredibly generous with his time if you needed to talk.
