Groton - Nestor C. Eusebio Sr., 79, of Groton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Aug. 1, 2011.

Nestor was born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Las-Pinas, Rizal, Philippines. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, with his last station on the USS Fulton in New London. He pursued his passion for cooking at the Groton Regency for six years. He then opened and operated Navy Heights Grocery and Oriental Market for eight years.

Nestor leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Arsenia Eusebio; and four sons, Edmund Eusebio and his wife, Jessica, of Griswold, Richard Eusebio and his wife, Tricia, of Houston, Texas, Jeffrey Eusebio and his longtime girlfriend, Melinda Gasker, of Oakdale, and Nestor "John" Eusebio Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, of Groton. He also has four grandchildren, Gregory, Malaya, Kayla, Derek, and Ethan. He is survived by his sister, Victoria Hernandez of the Philippines and a brother, Eleuterio C. Eusebio Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.

In his honor, a Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Sacred Heart Church in Groton.
