Nestor used to tell me about a review he once read, a test ride of the exact bike Lucian Van Impe rode to victory in the Tour de France. "The bike was nothing special -- simplex derailleurs," he told me, "what was special was the way it was ridden." He'd explain to me, "you could buy a truckload of bikes fancier, but to ride a bike just once like Van Impe could ride -- that was what bike racing was all about."

I was saddened to read of Nester's passing from this life. He brought joy, passion and conviviality to Midwest bicycle racing, especially for masters racers (amateurs over 30 years of age) who shared his love for two-wheeled competition. I join the many who will miss his positive influence in our lives. My condolences extend to his wife, Melanie, and family.

My condolences to Nestor's family, especially his son Nestor Junior. Nestor Senior would always talk about "my kid, my kid" in a way he was very proud of. Nestor Sr.'s work in bicycling will never be equaled and will be greatly missed.

S. S. S. Sloboda has lost another great singer. Nestor always wore a smile which always put a smile on others. I noticed his eyes always lit up when he spoke of Melanie. You could tell he loved to sing when you read his Pevaj Mi column. Now he is singing with all of our other angels. Vjecna Ja Pamjat
