Nicholas E. Hanson, died on March 31, 2024.

Nick was a gifted athlete, he played football, hockey and baseball at Chelmsford High School before transferring to Tilton School his junior year. He was a three sport athlete at Tilton as well and graduated in 2003.

In 2011, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for over 3 years as a machine gunner. He received many awards, medals and ribbons during his enlistment including the Marine Corps Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ 1 star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2), NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, Certificate of Commendation (Individual Award) Letter of Appreciation and Meritorious Master Expert Rifle Qualification Badge. He was discharged with a rank of Corporal.

At Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he was the only member of his class to complete the Annual Recon Challenge which is a marathon honoring fallen Marines. Participants carry 50 pound rucksacks on their backs along with the Marine's dog tags over the nearly 26 mile distance.

He loved his family and loved being around them. He was a very hard worker, whether it was at Market Basket, Champs Sport or the local landscaping and hardscape companies he worked for prior to joining the Marines in 2011. As a Marine, he was top of his infantry class and excelled at everything he did.

Nick was loved by many in our platoon. He brought good humor to the worst situations which meant that everyone wanted to be with him. He was a top caliber infantryman and served with dignity. As a machine gunner, it is only right that he left the world on machine gun appreciation day (03/31) even though we all wished that it had not been so soon. Nick was a dear brother to me and many others in CAAT platoon. It was an honor to be as his side. I will hold the memories of us together close to...
