Not sure what to say?

I recently came across an old article (1989) in the Alabama Historical Review about the additions to the state capitol in 1906 written by Nick Holmes, Jr. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to tell him. But when I Googled his name, I found he had passed away only a few months ago. We could have had much to say. I was once a news reporter at WKRG in Mobile, and am the immediate past-president of the Huntsville Historical Society. Sincere condolences to the Holmes family. John H....

I was a friend of his daughter Clara's in High School and although I didn't know Nick deeply and personally, he was warm, welcoming and kind everytime we met.

I remember a number of good conversations we had about music and education. I had a desire to become an architect and although we only discussed it a couple of times, seeing his success and happiness encouraged me in my pursuit. He was a genuinely wonderful person.

I wish the best to all of the Holmes family at this time.

I was fortunate to work with Nick as a colleague in the practice of architecture. He was a wonderful and talented architect and more importantly, a generous and thoughtful person. I learned a tremendous amount from him and looked forward to each and every phone call, meeting and interaction. Spending time with Nick was always time spent well. He was a wonderful human being, blessed with intellect, a great sense of humor and authenticity. Nick's legacy lives on in the many fine buildings he...

To Nick's dear sister, Mary Emilie (my close childhood friend and neighbor), I am so very sorry for your loss. Gone too soon! Sending my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

I'm so sorry to her of Nick's passing. We were classmates at Auburn and kept up over the years, though I'd lost touch in the last few. So talented, so cerebral, a fine fine person. Peace to you all.

My sincerest thoughts and prayers to your family and you.

Nick was a fine person who was always willing to assist with County projects, giving valuable suggestions and input. I was acquainted with him for many years. Very sad to hear of his passing. Prayers are with the family.

Nick was a great guy and a good neighbor. We will miss seeing him.
You have our deepest sympathies.
Sincerely Greg Reynolds and Charles Parmenter

I love you, Kate, and you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. He was a great man, and I know he was proud of you. XOXO
