Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

Kondyles, Nicholas “Nick” – of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Thursday April 5, 2018 with his family at his side.

Nick was born on May 25, 1930 in Genoa, Ohio the son of Kostantino “Gust” and Archontoula “Lula”. In January 1955 he married the love of his life Chryssoula. Together they brought into this world a girl and 3 boys. Toula, Dino, Lucky and Andy. With them came several grandchildren two from each child.

Nick was an avid athlete in his youth and was a member of all the sports teams at Bendle High School. Following high school he joined the Air Force and served in Anchorage, Alaska as a Corporal during the Korean War. He owned and operated with his mother Lula, following the early death of his Father, the “Maize and Blue Grill”. He attended Michigan Normal College today known as “Eastern Michigan University”. As marriage and children commitments caused him to suspend his college studies, he joined the Life of Virginia Insurance Company for 17 years until an unfortunate slip and fall disabled him temporarily.

In the meantime, Nick could not sit still so he resumed his University studies at then Baker Business College and Ferris State University. Although this required him to be away from home during the week, he and Chryssoula decided this sacrifice was worthwhile for the future of the family.

Nick went on to complete his Masters at Eastern Michigan University. He became a Professor of Accounting and Taxation at Baker University where he realized a long and prosperous 30 year career until his retirement. He never completely retired as he continued substitute teaching and as a Tax man for friends and family. But work and Nick’s career did not define him as he was a family man first and foremost. His kids and grandchildren never had a concert or sporting event that he did not attend. Sunday school and Greek School were not optional as he made sure they attended religiously. His church and family were his number one priority. He loved his faith and was a devout Orthodox Christian.

He truly loved everyone he met and in return he was loved by all. Nick has left a legacy for all his family to respect and emulate. It will be a difficult task for all. However, his Love, character and actions have given us a Memory Eternal.

Surviving are:

His wife: Chryssoula

Children: Toula (Doug), Dino (Anita), Kim and Tim Hinterman, Andy (Emily)

Sincere condolences to the family. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure in your heart and it lives forever. May the wonderful treasures fill your hearts with love and bring you peace, Hosea 13:14. *

Dear Soula and Family, my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. I worked with him at Baker College for nearly 20 years, where I was the Dean over Business and Accounting. He was always a caring and knowledgeable instructor, making the difficult subject of Accounting understandable to his students, and starting hundreds of graduates into careers in the Accounting profession. Students always appreciated "Mr. K" and his knowledge, caring and professionalism....

So sorry for your loss Soula and family.

He was one of my best and favorite instructors at Baker. I have thought about him many times over the years. His family is in my prayers.

Sending my condolences to your family. Such a kind and gentle man. He will be missed.
Praying for you, Soula, and your family at this difficult time.
Love, Gina Yiannatji & family
