Nick was born in Flint on December 2, 1988, to Ronald and Ellen (Anderson) Maize. He attended Flint Schools of Choice and proudly graduated from Flint Southwestern Academy in 2006. While Nick explored various professions, he found his true calling and a welcoming home as a beloved bartender at Tiffany’s in Frankenmuth. Outside of work, Nick cherished cooking, swimming, traveling, and spending quality time with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his loving parents, Ellen and Robert Rettenmund; his devoted aunts and uncle, Mary Anderson, Dr. David Anderson, and Dr. Beth Goldman; his cousins, Sarah and Timothy Foster; and his niece, Alex Foster.

Nick was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Maize; his aunt and uncle, Linda and Gary McClure; and his grandparents.

The family kindly requests that, in place of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Henry Ford Cancer Center or Heartland Hospice.

Not sure what to say?

Ellen, please get in touch with me. Reach out through Facebook messenger. I am so very sorry to have missed Nick's service. Lisa and I had planned to attend but we were too late. Let's have lunch soon.

I first met Nick when I worked with him at the Brewery. From the get-go he was so friendly and loved to make others laugh. I would see him in various social outings and, later, when I'd catch him bartending. Every time I'd see him at Tiffany's, we'd catch up on each others lives; it'd uplift my day. He showed a genuine interest in how I was doing. He had a truly kind and compassionate heart. The world is worse off without him in it. Rest easy buddy. You will be missed.

I miss working with you, you were kind and funny and fun. Rest in peace Nick.

It’s hard to say goodbye to someone like Nick. He was a true friend — kind, thoughtful, and always genuine. He had a way of making people feel at ease, and his presence brought warmth wherever he went.

Nicholas had a quiet strength, a great sense of humor, and a heart that made a difference in the lives around him. I’ll always be grateful for the time we shared and the memories we made.

Though he’s gone, he’ll never be forgotten. Rest in peace, my friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. So so sorry to hear this.

Nick was a great and loving person. No matter the occasion, he always had something interesting to say, and wonderful energy to be around. I always admired his compassion and sympathy for others. My condolences to the families/relatives and close friends.

Nick was a bright light in this world. For everyone who knew and loved him, he is gone too soon. Selfishly, I wish he was still here, but I believe he is at peace with our Heavenly Father and his light is now brighter than ever. He is a beautiful soul who will be dearly missed.

Ellen, Bob and family, Thulie and I would like to express our sympathy for your tremendous loss. Our prayers are for you during this time of profound sorrow.

This is Heartbreaking. Although I only got to talk with Nick a Few times. He was so thoughtful and kind. He is my Nephew, Nick got in touch with me and my Daughter Samantha, that His Daddy Ron is my half brother. I spoke with him a few months ago, we talked. I'm so Thankful For Nick. He will be missed.
