Foster-Warne Funeral Home - Collingswood Obituary

Passed away on October 2, 2023, at the age of 82.  He was raised in Williamstown, NJ.  After graduating from Glassboro State College, he taught at Tatem Elementary School in Collingswood for 32 years.  He lived in Collingswood for 6 years and then for 35 years in Moorestown.  He spent the past 18 years in Cherry Hill.

Nick enjoyed going to the Mummers Parade for many years and eventually became a member of Avalon String Band where he headed up the costume department.  He also served as vice president and Chairman of the Board.

Football was also one of Nick's hobbies.  He had season tickets to the Vet for 16 years and was at the game supporting the Eagles no matter what the weather was like.

Nick also loved dogs and has owned 17 of them over the years.  He always had some kind of hound dog.  His most recent hounds have been greyhounds.  For five years he actually owned five greyhounds at one time.  As he liked to say, three of them were ours and two of them were fosters who decided that they didn't want to go anywhere.  He has volunteered for the National Greyhound Adoption Program for many years.

Traveling was also one of Nick's pastimes.  He managed to visit all of the states in our country except four.

Nick is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy," his brother, Vince (Lorraine), his sister, Marianne and many nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind his greyhounds, Gilda and Lena.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, October 9, 6 PM to 8 PM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ.  Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, October 10, 11 AM at Holy Eucharist Church, 344 Kresson Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.  Interment will follow at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to National Greyhound Adoption Program, 10901 Dutton Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154 or to any animal shelter.

Dear Betsy, what a shock!!!
I was getting ready to go to our Wed. breakfasts and found this awful news instead. We have lost a truly sweet, special person. Just as he has left a wonderful legacy to his students, he has done the same to us who were privileged to know him and enjoy being in his life.
Betsy, you were his loving caretaker all these years. He loved you so and so do we all for caring for him all his life.
God bless you and give you strength to come through this...

Nick, you will be greatly missed. You taught me as a teacher to love teaching as you did. Your wife and dogs were your lifeline. God is receiving a marvelous, kind, gentle, and loving man. Love Rosemarie ❤❤❤

I had Nick as a teacher in six grade many many years ago. He was a great teacher and a great mentor. Like most of us who had him, he was a man you remember going thru life and one you will always remember Rest in peace knowing you made a great difference to others.

Nick and I were buddies. We both had mobility issues and I made a friend for life when I offered to give him a ride back to the club following a concert at the Mummers' Museum. He was a wonderful man. He doted over the people, animals and things he cared about. He worshipped Betsy, loved his dogs and acted as a personal valet to all his Avalon brothers. The world was a better place with Nick in it. Rest in peace Nick.

Dear Betsy: I was sadden to hear of Nick's passing- what a wonderful person he was. My thoughts go with you at this time .

I met Nick while walking my bloodhound, Charlie, about 5 years ago. We got to talking quite a bit and we became friends. Betsy, Nick, and I have been enjoying dining out with each other ever since. I’m going to miss him deeply. I’m a better man for knowing him. Rest in peace my friend.
