The best book Nick found and sent to me in Nashville. He was a master at his trade.

Nick, I will miss you, as will the book-loving people of Santa Fe. You were always there for an interesting discussion of authors and of the city we both loved. You loved the picture I took of you at your bookstore.

It was my great good fortune to have met Nick when I first came to Santa Fe in the mid-1970's. He was very helpful locating out of print books for me but besides that he was just very kind and easy going. I got to know him more when my Parisian step son, Gilles Premel, moved to Santa Fe and taught Nick how to play the conga drums. Nick was also fascinated to learn that Gilles' uncle, Isaac Bashevis Singer, had just won the Noble Prize in literature in 1978. Onward and upward for us all! ...

Nick was one of the last of a vanishing breed, a true bibliophile with superb taste and the grace to accompany it. Donald Lamm
