Not sure what to say?

Hey brother, its really been a long while since Alaska. I’m starting to think about whether I will submit retirement papers; even I can’t believe its been almost 19 years since I joined. I was watching YouTube and you popped into my head. All these years, but you’re still not forgotten. A couple of 20 somethings then, I’m in my 40s now and a CSM believe it or not. I’ve led a lot of Soldiers, and every now and again I see that look you used to have; like you knew something others didn’t. ...

I had the fortune of being Sowinskis team leader for about two months in 2004. I asked him why a guy who scored so high on the ASVAB was in the Cav. He said, I just want to serve my country, sergeant. I wish I had been able to get to know him better. He was a good man.

Going through my green box the other day and I saw my evaluation, your only one.

Nick was a great guy and always enjoyed talking about comics & movies. I remember he was SO excited to come back and see the Transformers movie in summer 2007. Every time I watch one of these movies I think of Nick. R.I.P buddy, see you in Heaven.

Nick... I am thinking about you today and have talked about you many times in my classroom. I will never forget our final email conversation and I still have it saved today. Thank you for your honor, service, and friendship.

Each year on Veterans' Day I visit the Healing Field that has graced us in Cathedral City, Ca. for several years now. Each year I pick a flag at random and view the placard with the name of a fallen hero. In 2012 I picked Nicholas. Thank you Nick. I never met you but I feel like I know you.

It is because of people like you that I can live in a country free of war. I don't have to fear the bombs and missles. I have the freedom to do and say as I please. All of this is because of your sacrifice and the sacrafice of so many others. I will not forget and I make a pledge that I will not let others forget. RIP with the angels.
