Nick Panko of Johnson City Nick Panko, 82, passed away March 27, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Nick served as a medic during World War II, and then returned home to attend Harpur College, where he received a BA in 1955. He later became a Specifications Engineer...
Nick was a friend, fellow medic and tough ping-pong opponent. His love for Johnson City, UVES and good Chinese food will long be remembered. Rest in peace, my friend.

From a past UVES squad member who remembers Nick as dedicated volunteer. I spent many years associated with Nick during my 20+ years with UVES. There was no one more dedicated than Nick. He will be missed.

The EMS community has suffered another great loss. Nick, along with others, unselfishly gave of their time and knowledge to raise up future generations of EMS providers. Many of us have gone on to careers in health care and law enforcement as our way of continuing to give to the community. A very valuable lesson taught by the great Nick Panko. I laugh till tears fill my eyes as I think of some of the practical jokes we used to play on Nick and what a good sport he was. To Nick's family-thank...

Maggie & all the Panko family, We were so sorry to hear about Nick's passing and even more sorry that we cannot be there in person to attend the services and express our sympathies as we are still in Florida for the winter. Nick was a part of our Binghamton church family all my growing up years, as well as a neighbor 'up the street'. Allen and I will remember him most in our adult years for his service to God and his church with never a hesitation. He was a good friend during coffee...

To all of Nick's family: Thanks for sharing him with us. Fortunately, his heart was big enough for us all. I was one of the "young pups" at UVES, joining in 1980 when I turned 16. For whatever reason, Nick took me under his wing (despite the countless practical jokes for which he was always an easy mark) and made me a much better medic & person than I likely would have been. Of course, he also turned me on to Chinese food. I never remember anyone who ever needed anything approaching Nick...
