Please accept my condolences.. I served with Mr. Phillips as a young pup and fellow plank owner on the USS Manley from 1956-59. Today at 76 I still vividly recall how special he was as one of our most respected leaders on the ship before, during and after the infamous rogue wave disaster. I can still see that bright, smiling, kind and energetic blue eyed face! What a good person. He influenced me significantly when it counted.
