In the 80s and early 90s, I loved going down to his little deli in S.F., eating proshkis, and talking politics with him. I didn't realize how smart he was until years after I retired (94). By that time, I had begun the subjects he liked to talk about. I wanted to tell him but I didn't know how to get ahold of him. I had heard he moved to Chicago.
He was a great guy.
