Noel Eunice Cox Ghergich, passed away on October 30, 2021, at her residence in Slidell, Louisiana. She was born in New Orleans, La. on December 29, 1937. Noel was a lifelong resident of Slidell where she enjoyed a successful nursing career. Noel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of thirty-five years, Albert “Bert” Ghergich, Sr., in July of 1990. She was the daughter of Mercedes T. Dupaquier and George S. Cox. The youngest of nine children: George, Mercedes, Edward, Arthur, Joyce, Henry, Louisiana, Earl, and Huey.
Noel is survived by her brother, Huey. Noel and Bert are survived by their children, Roslyn Legeaux (Charles-deceased); Albert, Jr. (Ann Bowman); Kimberlee Charbonnet (Paul); Tammy Zundel (Edward); Joan Marlow (Clark-deceased); and Kathy Firmin (Terry). Noel is also survived by eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins; nieces; nephews; family members; and friends.
Noel epitomized a passion for living life to the fullest. Her many storied adventures are both legendary and comedic. She was a compassionate, non-judgmental person that also did not hesitate to let you know how she felt about any situation. She embodied acceptance, love, and a “live and let live” attitude that was contagious as well as challenging. Noel was always the champion of the underdog. She was the type of person you went to when life was cruel or unfair. She was a shoulder to cry on and a reliable sounding board for your crazy ideas and haunting questions. She would stand with you against the world while offering genuine love, and that hard advice and keen insight you really needed to hear. She had little time for prideful or hateful people. Noel was an unpretentious, authentic presence; what you saw was what you got.
Noel was a lifelong adventurer. She would travel anywhere with little preparation or money and have the time of her life. Traveling with her was an adventure in and of itself. As a devout Catholic; Noel was a person of deep faith. She was also a fan of the mysterious, the supernatural, and scary ghost stories. In addition, Noel was a fabled prankster, as any of her family can attest. She could take it as well as dish it out. She loved playing games with her grandchildren and cards with anyone that could wrangle together some loose change or a few dollar bills.
Noel will be deeply missed by her children, family, and friends. May her spirit of adventure, acceptance, and zeal for life continue to flourish in all the lives she touched.

Knew Noel for a short time but even though the time was short, her kindness is remembered. May her family be honored to have had such a person as Noel.
