Noel Steinberger, 81, passed away on April 24, 2020, at the Jewish Home in Rockleigh, New Jersey, from complications of COVID-19 and other long-term medical conditions. After a video call with his five children, he passed peacefully within the hour. Noel was born on March 15, 1939, to Lena (Holtz) and Sanford Steinberger, in New York City. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1957, and (after a stint at City College, where he made lifelong friends) earned a degree in Economics from NYU. In 1961 he married Linda Rose, also of Forest Hills, and they had four children, whom they raised together in Forest Hills and Merrick, NY. After Linda's untimely death, Noel remarried twice; in 1996 he and Heidi Star welcomed a son, born in Los Angeles, where Noel's job had taken him. He returned to the East Coast a few years later, and spent the rest of his life in the New York area.
Noel's field of work, marketing and advertising, allowed him to deploy his artistic and creative talents. His employers included Revlon, Citicorp, North American Marketing, and IBM. He loved spending time with family and friends, grilling in the backyard or preparing lavish holiday meals. His passion for travel took him to Norway, Italy, France, Mexico, and South Africa, but he was also happy just to while away the hours at Jones Beach. He valued generosity and love, family and friendship above all else. We will miss his wit, his warmth, and his indomitable spirit more than we can express.
Noel is survived by his loving sister, Frimet Sklar, of Queens, New York, and his devoted children, three daughters, two sons, and three sons-in-law: Deborah Steinberger (Valery Roy) of Newark, Delaware; Jane Rosini (Steve) of River Vale, New Jersey; Laura Steinberger (Andrew Goodwillie) of Nyack, New York; Daniel Steinberger, and Ean Steinberger, both of New York. He also leaves behind his six adoring grandchildren: Owen, Eva, and Jillian Rosini; Gabriel and Jesse Roy; and Leo Steinberger.
A graveside service for the immediate family will be held at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Bablyon, New York, on Monday, April 27; Noel's great-niece, rabbinical student Lily Sklar Goldstein, will officiate. Shiva will be held virtually.
