Jackson Memorial Funeral Service - Jackson Obituary

Nora Lee Carpenter was born on November 16, 1932 in Yazoo City to Elnora Hill and Henry Hill. She was the 3rd of 18 children.

Nora accepted Christ as Lord and Savior of her life in 1945. She was under the Pastorship of Reverend R. H. Walls at True Light Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful and dedicated member where she functioned as a Sunday School Teacher, missionary leader, youth choir leader, choir member, and program coordinator. In July of 2005, she moved her membership to New Kingdom M.B. Church under the pastorship of Reverend Marvin Adams where she served on the Mother Board. She continued her role as program coordinator as well as a missionary leader. Nora's journey as a Christian walk resonated in her home, work and community. She served the Lord in all areas of her life. Everything she did was in service to the Lord. Nora was a member of the Smoke Blowers CB Club along with her husband helping those in need in the community.

Nora was a 1951 graduate of the Lanier Bulldogs. In 1970, she decided to further her education and attended Jackson State University. She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1975. She was part of the career opportunity program while at JSU.

Nora worked with the Head Start program for many years before turning her attention to work in the private sector. She began working for Prep Company in 1985 where she ultimately became director. During her employment, she was part of the Child Care Directors Alignment. In 2017, she decided  to retire from the workforce.

Nora enjoyed life but her main interest included cooking (OMG her chicken and cornbread dressing), traveling, puzzle books, and computer games. She found fulfillment in producing skits and plays as well as singing. She dabbled in sewing for a little while. Making sure her children was dressed for success. Above all her greatest interest was studying the Word of God. She took pride in her relationship with the Lord.

Nora met the love of her life Carnell Carpenter at Smith Robinson Grade School. Years later they married on June 28, 1955. They lived according to the Word of God, one man and one woman for 67 blissful years. This union produced seven children. Two boys: Tyrone and Larone. Five Girls: Sabirna (deceased), Patrice, Tina (deceased), Zinith, and Sonya.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Elnora Hill, siblings William Hill, Willie G. Hill, Walterene Hill, and by her children Sabrina Robinson and Tina Carpenter.

Not sure what to say?

My heartfelt condolences to the Carpenter family. Sis. Carpenter was a pillar at True Light Baptist Church. Her dedication & commitment to the ministry were so commendable. She was serious about preaching Christ Jesus to others along her Christian journey. She was soft spoken, humble and true about God’s Word. She was virtuous and a role model. Her presence will be deeply missed! So fare ye well my dear friend. On that great “gitting” up morning, we all shall meet again someday.

We pray for peace and comfort for you and family, during this difficult time and offer our condolences to you all.
