Proctor Funeral Home - Camden Obituary

Norma Lee Taylor went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the age of 90   Norma was born on March 28, 1930 near Walkerville, Arkansas.   She was the daughter of Walter Bran and Onie Mae McMahen. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Wayne Taylor, formerly of Camden, Arkansas, and now living in Rogers, Arkansas. Norma has two sons, Ken and his wife Kim of Heath, Texas, and Rod and his wife Robyn of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is also survived by a brother, Merwin McMahen and a sister, Sylvia McMahen Dennis of Shreveport, Louisiana. She has 5 grandchildren: Brooks Taylor, Mason Taylor, Blake Taylor (wife Megan), Sarah Taylor, and Brandon Taylor. She also has several nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Walter McMahen, Jr.

Norma spent her formative years in Magnolia and attended what is now Southern Arkansas University. There she studied accounting and played basketball for the Mulerider AAU team. She received several honors while playing basketball and could still play a mean game of HORSE up until a few years ago. After marrying Wayne in 1953, they started their life in Thornton where they both taught and coached basketball. They then moved to Hope where both were involved in teaching and coaching, as well.   In 1957, they moved to Camden where Wayne joined the Camden Panther’s coaching staff and Norma went to work for Woodlands, and several years later for County Judge Alfred Smith. Norma loved family and spent hours with her sons playing ball when they were young. She loved to cook and was well known for her chocolate pies. After she retired, she took up golf and was an active member of the Women’s Golf Association at Camden Country Club. She loved playing golf with many of her dear friends.   She loved to sing and was a member of the church choir for most of her life. Her biggest love was Jesus.   She raised her boys and steered them to the Lord at an early age and that legacy has now been passed on to her grandkids. She and Wayne were members of First Baptist Church in Camden since 1957, where both served in several areas.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Camden at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Visitation will be held at the church at 9:00 AM.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Camden. Not sure what to say?

Coach Taylor was a special part of my growing up years and I’m so grateful for the impact that he had on the lives of so many of us. I’m so sorry for your loss but I’m sure the memories you carry with you will bring you comfort until you meet again.

My dad always told me that Aunt Norma was the best athlete that this family ever had. For him to admit that, she had to have been special.

Coach Taylor, it has been many years since I was in school in Camden. I knew your wife although very slightly. Just a student knowing the wife of one of our coaches. I am terribly sorry for you loss and I pray that the wonderful memories you have will help you through the sorrow and loneliness.

What a full life! I am happy that Norma has claimed her Victory in Jesus but sad for the grief your family is going through. I am thinking of you Ken and Rod, and am thankful for the promise of a reunion in Heaven. Love to you both......

Norma was such an important part of FBC and the choir, always so faithful in the alto section. She has been missed since moving to NW AR. Thankful for her and Wayne and what they mean to me. Sorry to miss the service, a cold has slowed me down.

Coach Taylor, May our Heavenly Father be with you and other family members during this time of sorrow.

Coach Taylor: Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Our memories of Norma will always be tied to the two of you as a couple. We know that you are thankful to have had 67 years with such an extraordinary lady.

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Norma but know that she would have been so proud of the legacy she left behind. The Taylor family is one of the sweetest, thoughtful, giving families I've ever met. There is nothing more peaceful and precious than knowing that the love you gave to this world manifested in a family that loves Christ. May she rest in peace and celebrate her days in glory with our Creator!!

Sshe was a beautiful lady and a frfiend to everyone who knew her.
