Not sure what to say?

My days at Camp Sidney Cohen as a camper were the highlight of my summer. Relaxing in the big circle after lunch and listening to Norm and Jim B sing to us we're treasured moments. I discovered they how much all of humankind is alike and just want to be loved and accepted. The counselors I had were fabulous role models. I happily returned to become one myself.
This family was blessed with a fabulous Dad and Grandfather and he became the same for all the children at camp.

I'm so sorry for you family's loss.

Last fall I began diving into MCEO's records. Wow. It is clear Milwaukee is a better place for having Norm's energy and attention!

Dear Nina, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of your Father. He was a great person, mentor, leader and positive role model. As a teen, I first joined COA, in 1977. I remember going to inter-teen league, it was so cool, because we could interact with teenagers from other cultures. We learned so much from each other. I also remember the fun camping trip to Camp Sidney Cohen and Flambeau. Norm's spirit and memory will shine...

Debbie,
I decided to look online for news about Camp Sydney Cohen and learned of your father's death. Please accept my sincere condolences. Your father was like a second dad to me while at camp. The fact that we attended Hartford Avenue School together probably helped to cement that idea in my mind. Your parents also opened their home to me -- I remember playing a few afternoons after school. Our fathers - one White, one Black - led parallel lives in Milwaukee, working for social justice...

I remember Ruth and John when I was a camper and a Counselor. they are right to say that Norma had a profound effect on our lives at the time. A true leader, mentor and inspiration to us all.

Debbie I am so sorry to hear that your dad passed. He was a great man. If you read this I would love to talk to you. I am working at UWM call me please. Sandy Humes

I worked for Norm at Camp Sidney Cohen two summers, one as a counselor and the other as Girls' Village Director in the middle 1960's. it was the best experience of my early adult life ever possible. Norm was and has always been my hero. He was a visionary, a humanist, a strong and committed man working to make life better for all and by example showing how it could be done. Norm was a straight shooter, had a warm heart and a terrific sense of humor. I will never forget this dear man, a ...

Best camping experience as a child...I remember the indian fire dances on the pier...dancing through hoops... The canoe trips on the Wisconsin and Mississippi that couldn't be done today. I remember seeing(hairy) Norm for the first time on the tennis court. The best...God Bless Him and all this family... Great years denicated to underprivelaged Kids in the 60's and for decades later. Lifelong friends from around the country will morn his passing and shed a tear. KEde
