Knowing Norm

Norm and I have known each other all our lives although we didn’t realize this until just a couple of years ago. One day we were reminiscing about when we were young and growing up, as older folk happen to do, we discovered that when Norm was about 13 and I was about 3 was the first time we met. The General Electric Co in Pittsfield would have a family day for all their employees at the GEAA golf course on Crane Ave. Every year Norm would bring his ponies to the...

Reading about Norm's death brings me back to my intern days while attending Springfield College and student teaching at Wahconah regional where I met Norm and Garnet. And wonderful memories they are..condolences to all.

I worked with Norm at BaRT Charter School. He was instrumental in making this new school successful. His dedication and commitment to the students, faculty, staff and administrators was always his priority. I must admit that I learned more from Norm in two years than I have leaned from years of classroom experience. Norm took me beneath his wing and taught me what is really important in this life. His wisdom, insight and compassion are what make him a true Mentor. I will miss his wonderful...

To the Family of Norman Carmel,

Please accept our sincere sympathy and prayers at this very sad time.

Norm and I started our careers in education way back in Sheffield in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District. Norman left Sheffield a year before I did for Central Berkshire but urged me to apply a year later at Central Berkshire.

In 1964, when I moved to Dalton and took a position at Central Berkshire, it was Norman Carmel who helped me make the transition. ...

I read of Norm's death and I extend my condolences to his family. He was my mentor and supervisor when I was a new teacher in 1974. I fondly remember our talks and his guidance. I am sorry.

Anita and I send our love. Our memories as a foursome will be with us forever. They were wonderful times and Norm will be greatly missed.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.

Uncle Norman was a tremendous person and his presence and contributions will be greatly missed by the community. I have not seen him in years but he has always been in my thoughts, when my Father (Bob Carmel) passed away he was extremely supportive and comforting in our time of need although I am sure he was suffering a great loss himself. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

I considered Norm a friend and a mentor. His contributions to Special Needs children are immeasurable.
May memories comfort his family at this sad time.
