Norman John Duer, the son of Arnold and Georgia (Lodden) Duer, was born July 19, 1949, in Estherville, Iowa and departed this life on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at his daughter's home in Estherville at the age of 57 years old. Norm received his education in the Swea City schools and graduated from Swea City High School in 1967. Norm also attended Iowa Lakes Community College and graduated in 1969. He was employed at Great Plains Lumberyard in Swea City and he also was a private contractor. Later he was employed at Swea City and Bancroft Building Supply and currently at UBC in Algona. Norm was very active in the Swea City community and served as a volunteer fireman and EMT in Swea City for over 20 years. Norm also volunteered his time and was on the Fire and Rescue Crew for Fairmont Speedway in Fairmont. In his leisure time he enjoyed camping, watching sports, specifically (Da Bears) and NASCAR. Norm especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Norm was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sherri Ort and her husband, Doug of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Jeremy Duer of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Melissa Erickson and her husband, Eric of Estherville; Jennifer Leininger and her husband, Troy of Ringsted; six grandchildren, Chase, Angel, Brenden, Shelby, Amelia, Quentin; brothers and sisters, Ron Duer and his wife, Marian of Estherville, Iowa; Greg Duer and his wife, Marilyn of Sunland, California; John Duer and his wife, Donna of Armstrong, Iowa; Laura Schliecher and her husband, Dean of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; Alice Cue and her husband, Jeff of Urbandale, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He has been preceded in death by his parents.
