Weatherhead Young Funeral Home Obituary

Norman Goss, 88 of Brick, NJ, and Ft Meyers, Florida, formally of Spring Lake passed away on September 27, 2021.  Norman was born and raised in Spring Lake Heights by his parents Elizabeth and Sheldon Goss.

He is survived by his loving wife Helen of 28 years.  They loved living the life of snowbirds.  While spending the summers in New Jersey, he worked at Sea Girt beach.  In the winter he kept busy playing golf or tennis in Florida.

Norman graduated from Manasquan High School where he was a star athlete in both football and baseball.  After high school, Norman served in the United States Army.  He moved to Spring Lake with his first wife, Anna where they raised their five children.  He was proprietor/owner of Spring Lake News for 40 years before retiring.   After his retirement he continued to work during the summer months at the Sea Girt Beach for the last 25 years.  He served as Commander of the American Legion and was a member of the Spring Lake Heights Fire department for many years.  He was a Certified Official Referee for high school baseball, soccer, and football games and umpired for the Little League Association for many years.  He was an avid golfer and tennis player.  He was a true sportsman all his life and loved the outdoors where he enjoyed playing sports, boating, skiing, bicycling, walking the boardwalk, and anything to keep himself active.  He was a member of the Jersey Shore Promenaders for many years where they were square dancers.

In later years you could find Norm with his wife, Helen, at the Manasquan Inlet watching the boats, at the ocean watching the surfers or just having lunch at his favorite luncheonette and socializing with their friends.

Norman is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Sheldon Goss; his son Jeffrey Goss; his brothers William and Sheldon and his first wife of 38 years Anna Goss (Lombardo).  Surviving Norman are his wife, Helen, his children Deborah Harris of Wall, Cynthia Burton (Bradley) of Wall, Norman Goss, Jr. of Spring Lake Heights, and Kevin Goss of Massachusetts.  He also leaves ten grandchildren Nichole Burton-Hale, Bradley Burton, Amanda Toner, Dylan, Elizabeth, and Benjamin Goss.  Jason, Brandon, and Gavin Goss and Kevin Goss Jr and his four great-grandchildren, Nickolas and Elijah Burton, Charlie Toner, and Maverick Goss.

Norman’s greatest gift was his enormous love for his family.  Norman will be deeply missed and forever remembered by a large and extended loving family and network of friends.

Cremation for Norman was private and under the direction of Weatherhead Young Funeral Home.  A celebration of life will be announced later, as well as interment of cremated remains at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle N.J. Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
