I did not know Mr. Jasper, but his story should stand as an inspiration to anyone who has an ounce of Pride in being a citizen of The United States Of America. We done Sir!

Norman was a Marine´s Marine and a true American hero. We were honored to know him.

I arrived in Vietnam on 20Sept'67 and was at the Khe Sanh Combat Base 2 days later. It was peaceful there then ever since the Hill Fights that spring. I joined C/1/13 a 105mm howitzer battery. My MOS was 0849 ( Naval Gunfire Support) and upon checking-in the First Sergeant immediately kidded me that I was almost 29 miles from the South China Sea and no naval gunfire support was to be found. While I only knew Mr. Jasper for 2 short years, his impact will remain with me forever. Mr. Jasper shared with me all of the trauma and tragedy he experienced as a young man, and said he always stayed positive. I asked him how he remained so positive after all he endured, and he said, "Well, there is no point to being mad or upset. Be encouraging. Others will see you and follow your lead."
