Not sure what to say?

From the time I started my clarinet & saxophone journey, I looked to Mr. Kobal to hoan my Cleveland Slovenian Style music as well. When I was 16 years old he gave me a polka break where I played with an are band for two years until I graduated from high school and joined the Marines; and like Mr. Kobal I played while in the service. The one regret I have is that I did not take advantage to get more time with him to be a better Slovenian musician.

Thanks for the reminder. Norm was a world class musician and a great entertainer. His one season on the PolkaRama television series with the Western Senators and Canada's Polka King, Walter Ostanek, is a classic. Hard to believe that he has been gone this long. Rest in peace, old friend.

I was sorry and saddened to hear of Norm's passing. He was an outstanding musician and of impeccable character. I had the priveledge of knowing Norm for many years and performing with him on many occasions. He had been a musical mentor and inspiration to me, but most importantly a very dear friend. As a fellow horn player, I will miss him and his music dearly. Most people did not realize the musicianship that Norm had and the level of player that he was. Words can not describe what a treat it...

Norm was my go-to guy for sax and clarinet work on stage and in the studio for over 25 years. He played on sixty of my albums, travelled all over North America and Europe with me, and was a very close personal friend and colleague. On behalf of my wife, Irene, the boys in the band and of course, myself, thanks Norm for the memories and all the great music. Rest in peace.

A true gentleman and gifted musician. His love of music was infectious and we were blessed to call him friend. We will always carry his memory in our hearts.

Always enjoyed Norm and his music, both in Cleveland and in Frankenmuth! It was a pleasure to know this wonderful musician and friend. Rest in peace, Norm.

Norm at Club Regent Casino, Winnipeg, 2003

Last Sunday, we played a show with Walter Ostanek in Regina. When I announced Norm's passing, there was a collective sigh from the 250-or so in attendance. He was truly loved by the folks here in the middle of the Saskatchewan prairies and the first season of PolkaRama, which featured Norm, is still our most sought after DVD collection. After his stroke, people were constantly inquiring about his state of health whenever and wherever we played.

Distance prohibits us from attending...
