Lake Cumberland Funeral Home - Somerset Obituary

Norman F. Phelps, age 85, of Somerset, KY., passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital after a short illness.

Norman was born on May 12 1936 to the late Paul Phelps and Verna Eaton Phelps. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Frances Phelps of who he married on October 5, 1957. He owned and operated Norman Phelps Plumbing for the past 45 years. He was a kind and generous man who gave and loved with his whole heart. With Norman’s passing, this world has lost a ton of plumbing and other knowledge that he gained from years of experience. That knowledge was something he was very proud of. His face would light up with a smile if you mentioned plumbing or backhoes to him. He was such a wonderful man who was a friend to many and will be missed not only for his knowledge, but for his quick wit and dry humor.

He is survived by his children, Patti (Bobby) Waymire; Kathy Roy and Doug (Sandy) Phelps; grandchildren, Shannon Minton; Adam (Amy) Waymire; Trent Waymire; Rachel Phelps (Corey) Shearer; Hannah (Gage) Phelps and Trevor Roy; great-grandchildren, Chase (Victoria) Minton; Jaylen Dabney; Cole Waymire; Addyson Waymire; and Levi Roy; one sister, Lynn Goff; a special friend, Billie Elliot; and several extended family members, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Norman was preceded in death by his siblings, Leamon Phelps, Pauline Haufe, Bill Phelps, Marilyn Dye, and Shirley Sharp.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 11:00am at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Harper officiating. Burial will be at Union Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon Minton, Adam Waymire, Trent Waymire, Chase Minton, Gage Chansler, and Corey Shearer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Trevor Roy, Levi Roy, Jaylen Dabney, Cole Waymire, and Addyson Waymire.

Norman Phelps was a good man and a good friend. He and Steve have always been right here when I needed plumbers. Norman was working to replumb my old house the day he went home for lunch and found Frances had passed away. It wasn’t but just a few years later that my wife passed away and it was during a terrible winter storm. I had a house full of family and friends and wouldn’t you know it, I would have plumbing problems. But even in the ice and snow, Norman and Steve took care of me. On...
