Norman John Shopland, died peacefully February 23, 2021, beloved husband and predeceased by Mary Marguerite Shopland (nee Marten) and loving father to John Shopland (Wendy), Jane Shopland, Barb Shopland (Lisa) and Elizabeth Shopland (Fred), grandfather to Ian, Tannis, Riley and Mackenzie and great-grandfather to Lucas.
Born August 20, 1924 in Clevedon, Somerset England to the late Edmund and Winifred Shopland, predeceased by brother, Don (Australia), Norman is survived by his sister Barbara (Oakville) and brother Robert (Wales).
Norman joined the Royal Air Force 221 Squadron and served in Malta, Italy, Greece, Egypt and North Africa from 1941 – 1946.
He immigrated to Canada in 1947 and worked at Foster Wheeler and Bell Canada. In May 1949 he joined the engineering department of True Temper Hardware in St. Catharines.
In 1973 he transferred to Dunkirk, New York and settled with his family in Westfield. For the next 17 years his territory and responsibilities increased and often involved international travel and in 1989 he served as the Managing Director of the plant in Kulim, Kedah Malaysia until he retired in 1990 after 41 years of service with True Temper.
The family would like to thank Chautauqua Hospice and all the staff and his friends at Fredonia Place for their kindness and support.
Due to COVID restrictions a private family service will be held.
