Norman Timothy "Tim" SLADE

I was one of Tim's roommates freshman year at Amherst. He was so far above me intellectually that it was scary. We had many, many quiet talks that year and he educated me about classical music, poetry and literature. We were in different fraternities after freshman year and different classes but we were in the same dorm and still talked a lot. I did not see much of Tim our last two years and completely lost contact after graduation. Learning of his death shocked me greatly and made me...

You're Dad and Companion was a truly special man. I knew him from Winona and the farm on the hill. He was always a pleasure to talk with and I will miss him. He had an intellect and wit as well as many unique insights that were to be treasured. My prayers are with all of you during this time.

I knew Tim in Winona, Minnesota, and I know he was a good father. My condolences to all in the Slade family.

I transferred to SPA in 6th grade to join the class of 1957. My friends who had already been students there said, "You're going to meet Tim Slade. He's the smartest guy ever." I did and he was, right up to the end. Tim was a walking encyclopedia with seemingly inexhaustible information on just about any subject that could come up. As others have remarked, he was a gentle man. He had an affable tolerance for those with less knowledge than he, and also for those with political politics...

We deeply mourn your loss of a beloved father and ours of a very dear friend. Ours was a friendship rooted in forty years of shared interests and experiences.

I first met Tim when I was just three or four years old, perhaps younger. Our mothers were friends, and our families subsequently became friends. The two families lived close to each other in the Crocus Hill area of St. Paul and later at White Bear Lake. Tim and I were also in the same class at school for several years, until I moved away for three years after 9th grade. We continued our friendship when my family returned to St Paul in 1957.
