Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home - Cincinnati Obituary

Olga (“Ollie”) nee Diakun, 96, of Cincinnati and Perth Amboy, New Jersey, passed away Monday, January 15th, after a long full life. She moved, newly married, from NJ to Price Hill in 1947, and in her 22-year career with Cincinnati Bell, worked her way up to become a department manager at a time when very few women held that position. After retiring in 1978, she put her skills to good use volunteering with Zonta Club of Cincinnati, Radio Reading Services (of the Cincinnati Association for the Blind), and the Telephone Pioneers of America. In later years she moved to Mercy West Park, where she served on the Resident Council, ran many raffles, wrote poetry, and gave countless dinner parties. She was outgoing but never loud, dignified but fun-loving, and always willing to help. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and customs. She will be remembered for her leadership, her delightful  humor, her generosity to family, friends, and charities, her love of cooking and entertaining, and the hundreds if not thousands of holiday cookies and pizzelle that she baked over the years. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Joseph Kanuschak, and four siblings: Helen Motorney of Washington, DC, Marie Yaros of Rahway, NJ, Ann Johnston of New York, NY, and John Diakun of Perth Amboy, NJ. She is survived by her sister, Stelle Gadek, of Gaithersburg, MD, a niece, Joan Gadek, of Montgomery Village, MD, and a nephew, Steven Yaros, of Hampton Roads, VA. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 19th from 8:30AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM both at St. William Church 4108 West 8th Street (45205). Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati. Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Homes serving the family. www.mrfh.com

A note to say will miss Ollie..... I told her she was my hero & that I wanted to be like her.
Always friendly & active .....
I met her when my aunt came to WestPark about 7 years ago. They were neighbors on the 6th floor & then moved to 4 approximately the same time . I'm there quite frequently, so it was always a pleasure to see her.
My thoughts are with you at this sad time.May her memory be eternal .
