Not sure what to say?

Elaine, as I knew her, was the best principal I ever knew. She was a very supportive administrator to a new teacher beginning her career. Thanks, Elaine

I took my daughter into Dr. Bates office when she became principal at Stephenson Elementary School and they very quickly got into a discussion of favorite authors and I remember she shared a strong liking to Stephen King's work, whom my daughter mentioned. I remember being a bit taken aback when she told her since I thought she would react very differently and not approve. You don't remember all your teachers only the life changing ones Miss Bates was one of the BEST Helped me with math in 6th grade at Rose City

Elaine was a dear friend and colleague from our time together as administrators in the Portland Public Schools. She made a tremendous contribution to the lives of so many students and their families. She will be cherished always.

Elaine was a wonderful mentor and principal to me when I first started out my teaching career with PPS. I stayed in touch with her until recent years. She was very kind to me and also had a funny sense of humor. I will remember her fondly. Kris Goodrich

Miss Bates was my 8th grade teacher at Robert Gray. She was my favorite teacher in grade school and a wonderful role model for me - so smart, so caring in a gentle way. I regret now that I didn't make contact in later years. I would appreciate knowing about a memorial service. [email protected]

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
