HERDMAN, Opal M., 88, of Chesterfield, passed Wednesday, July 27, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Bruce Herdman Sr.; and her daughter, Cheryl Clarke. She is survived by three children, Nancy L. Haste, Calvin B. Herdman Jr. and his wife, Martha, and David C. Herdman and his wife, Christine; two brothers, one sister, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Opal retired from Chesterfield County School System as a bus driver after 31 years of service. Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bliley's - Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where a funeral ceremony will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park.

I met Opal many years ago in the early eighties. She would come into the fabric store that I managed and buy supplies to make her crafts. She always had several projects she was working on. From time to time she would bring in some of the things she had made with materials she had purchased from my store and once gave me a chicken bread basket which I stil have today. I continued to see Opal over the years at my second Piece Goods store and then much later at Ben Franklin Crafts which is...

Willie and I are so sorry for your loss. Opal was such a solid rock for her family and I know how much you will miss her presence but know, her presence will live forever in the hearts of those who love her.
