Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Orin Robert “Bob” Tolman returned to his Heavenly Father on December 24, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. We are deeply saddened to lose the light that he was in our lives but are consoled knowing that he now is enveloped in the arms of those who have gone before.

Bob was born June 7, 1942 in Murray Utah, the son of Orin Hatch Tolman and Irene Hill. He grew up in Sandy Utah where he attended Jordan High School. He served an LDS mission in Chicago, Illinois. He married Kay Pedersen in 1964. Then they were later divorced. He married Bonnie Baker in 1974. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple in 1989. He lived most of his adult life in the Salt Lake City area.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was always happy and loved bringing a smile to everyone’s face. For many years he played Santa Claus for family and work events. He enjoyed the yearly family reunion/campout with family and friends. He was also well known for his cooking skills specifically his homemade ice cream, chicken noodle soup and banana bread. He taught a ceramic painting class at the local senior citizens center for many years. His greatest enjoyment came from serving others.

Bob had many talents and skills. Over the years he used them as a custodian, a landscaper, a bus driver and a cashier. His is last and most favorite was being a foster grandparent for the states head-start program. He loved working with and teach and the children. This is where he became “Grandpa Bob”.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Bonnie. Children: Ken Tolman (Jennifer), Shelly Gray (Jerry), Terry Sund, BonnieRae Jean (Daniel) and Quincey Tolman (Angel), Janice Jenkins (sister) Anne Tolman (sister-in-law). His 28 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Wendy Massey (daughter), Wayne Myrick (son) Orin Hatch Tolman (father), Irene Tolman (mother), Phil Tolman (brother), Betty Tolman (sister-in-law), Gordon Tolman (brother), James Massey (son-in-law), Jerry Flores (son-in-law) .

The family would like to offer a special thank you to: 7-Eleven on 9657 S State for being so wonderful, friendly and giving and Bristol Hospice for being there through this difficult time.

Not sure what to say?

he was a great grandpa for me and my sister he was like the light in our lifes and now that he is gone that light is gone.
we miss you grandpa.

Grandpa Bob was a foster grandparent in my classroom last year and all of the children and teachers loved Grandpa Bob. We were so excited to find out what color Grandpa Bob's mustache would be that day. When the children would ask Grandpa Bob what happened to his fingers he would joke with them and say something silly like, "A shark bit them off" or something of the kind. We were so sad when Grandpa Bob got sick and couldn't attend anymore. You were such an asset to our program for such a...

Shelly, I'm thinking and praying for you and your family at this time of sorrow.

So many memories of my cousin Bob. From growing up as kids, to seeing each other at school at Jordan, family get together s and living in the same neighborhood these past 21 years. The many hand made banana nut bread's hand delivered to my door. Your love for Bonnie and your family. Your love for the children you worked with. It was all there. You will be loved and missed by so many, but we know that you are with your loved ones in heaven. Dearest Bonnie, I am just a phone call away....
