Clymer Funeral Home Cremations - Palm Coast Obituary

Orin Samuel Kaufman, 69, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021.

Orin was born in Queens, New York on March 28, 1951 to the late David and Vivienne (Epstein) Kaufman. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from CW Post and received his Doctor of Osteopathy from Des Moines University. He was a member of the Grand Haven croquet club, League of Hard of Hearing, and Kiwanis International which he devoted efforts to creating an Influenza Vaccine Program. Orin enjoyed boating, croquet, cooking, diving, day trading, and traveling. Orin retired as a physician and moved to Palm Coast, Florida in 2014.

Orin led a life of service. He spent many hours advocating and educating for the League of Hard of Hearing and he always served as a patient advocate. He did numerous things to help others which included working with low-income and disenfranchised patients, teaching and mentoring medical professionals, assisting with relief efforts during hurricane Sandy and supporting family and friends.

Orin served as the president of the Board of Directors for the Long Island Crisis Center. He donated to many charities, including police and fire departments. He was awarded Police’s Commissioner’s Civilian Award.

Orin is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Patricia Wylie-Kaufman; son, Jared Kaufman and wife Brandy Kaufman of Huntingtown, Maryland; daughter, Kimberly Kaufman of Vestal, New York; stepson, Daniel Kennedy and wife Olivia Acosta Kennedy of Orlando, Florida; stepdaughter, Kristy Thomas and husband Seth Thomas of Sherwood, Oregon; grandchildren, Alexus Kaufman, Logan Kaufman, Brody Kaufman, Patrick Kennedy, Samuel Kennedy; and sister, Leslie Freedman of Freeport, New York.

Orin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He dedicated his life to his family and those that he loved. Despite the challenges that Orin faced throughout his lifetime, especially his complete loss of hearing early in his adult life, he always showed great resilience, compassion and unconditional love.

It is requested that you help keep his spirit alive, for his grandchildren, by sending memories, photos, or other ways he enriched your life. The family would like to share his story through not only their eyes, but also through the people he touched. Please email: [email protected].

The family of Dr. Kaufman entrusted the arrangements to Clymer Funeral Home & Cremations.

Not sure what to say?

We were so shocked to hear of Orin's death. Orin was a wonderful, fun, upbeat person, with an infectious enthusiasm for life, and a great smile. Pat, you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Orin is gone way too soon.
With our deepest condolences,
Joyce and Joe Sullivan

Today would have been Orin’s 70th birthday. He was such a kind, sweet man that was such a blessing to all that knew him. I met Orin 7 years ago and I will always treasure the many afternoons that he and I played croquet together one on one always wishing each other a good game. We had so many fun times together. May you Rest In Peace my dear Orin and celebrate your birthday today with all your other croquet buddies that left us much too soon.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kim & Lex and the entire family!

Orin was a cousin. We spent many Thanksgivings together while growing up. We enjoyed parties at his parent’s home and his grandparents, Nettie, Nat/Sam. ORIN and I spent many hours talking about our future dreams, often while watching crappy drive-in movies we attended together. Some of our dreams came true. For that we are lucky. ORIN will be missed.

So sorry to hear of his loss. Prayer to Pat and the entire family.
David Leibman.

I worked with Orin for many years at Massapequa General Hospital where I was the Director of Security & Safety. Orin was a very gentle and kind man and a fantastic doctor who went out of his way for his patients. One day while he was leaving the hospital he stopped to say goodnight to me. I said the same to him and asked him a question relating to a health issue I was having. He said come, follow me and took me into a room to discuss the problem and gave a look see. Explained what was going...

RIP I have very fond memories working with this wonderful kind hearted physician at MGH. Sending sincere sympathy to Pat and all his family.

Orin was a special person. He caught one of his patient's disease which caused him to lose his hearing. I never heard him complain or feel sorry for himself. I know his life brightened after he met his wife, Pat. He is gone too soon and will be greatly missed.
