Ideal Funeral Parlor - Florence Obituary

Otis Parker was born February 3, 1966 in Florence, South Carolina. He was the son of Weldon Parker and Jannie Mae Kerson Shaw. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, South Carolina. "O.P.", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from South Florence High School in 1988 where he was a member of the ROTC. He furthered his education at Florence-Darlington Technical College. Otis was employed first as an auto mechanic and later, he was employed with Delta Mills in Pamplico, South Carolina for 17 years as an electrician and a computer analysis. Otis accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Later in life, he joined Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mill Branch Masonic Lodge #231. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carol McLaughlin Parker; two brothers, Michael Anthony Parker and James Allen Parker; maternal grandparents, James and Pearlie Kerson; and paternal grandparents, Rev. Dalton and Pearl Parker. He leaves to cherish fond memories: his beloved mother, Jannie Mae Shaw of the home; two children, Ashley Hunter and Jonathan Anderson of Florence, SC; four sisters, Sue Carol Brown, Tasha and Jannie Shaw, all of Florence, SC; and Pearlie Mae Mack of Middletown, CT; four brothers, Ronald Parker of New Haven, CT; Tony Parker, Leon (Tameka) Shaw and Phillip Shaw, all of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Not sure what to say?

I miss you!

My deepest and most sincere sympathy goes out to Ashley and The Parker Family. Otis and I were in ROTC together at South Florence and shared many laughs and good times. May you rest in the assurance that God is a Comforter and that He will never leave nor forsake you. He will bring you peace during the days, months and years ahead. God bless and keep you all. I will keep you in my prayers.
