Not sure what to say?

I know you are always with us
We miss you dad
I love you

“My name is not Mac, it is Herr Professor Doktor Ottomar von Rudolf and you can call me Sir.”
These words came from a story that he told a Freshman German class at St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia in 1960. A garage attendant was resisting letting Dr. Rudolf get his own Mercedes. Dr. Rudolf prevailed, of course. Dr. Rudolf's exhortations of “Los und Schnell” made their way into rowing practices, too. His influence was cultural, idiomatic and intellectual. "My name is not Mac, it is Herr Professor Doktor Ottomar von Rudolph, and you may call me Sir." This education of an unwilling garage employee was told to us in 1960 at St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia. He made being German cool. Many of us are sorry for his family's lo

Your father loved each of you so very much. Our paths would sometimes pass when...

I enjoyed Ottomar's company and friendship as shareholders of Portland brewing and I share my deepest sympathies with the family

Quite by accident I learned of Herr Rudolf's death. I was a Bryn Mawr student in the first 'baby German' class he taught in the College more than 50 years ago. He was, even then, a gifted teacher with a passion for sharing his enthusiasm for the German language and culture. My sympathies are with his family and friends.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

My late husband, John C. May and I were involved with the Reed Matinees in the first years, and enjoyed working with Ottomar. My sympathies.
