Owen Davidson

Owen was such an incredible tennis player, coach and mentor. I was recently thinking about a tennis lesson at HRC in the early 70s when he said "try to hit this shot" which was a back hand from the baseline placed short cross court. An incredibly effective shot even to this day! Rest in peace, Davo.

To the family, many, many friends, colleagues and fans of Mr. Owen Davidson fine comfort with you during this difficult time in your lives. Mr. Owen Davidson was an Australian tennis player who won eight Grand Slam titles in the 1960s and ‘70s as Billie Jean King’s mixed doubles partner. Owen Davidson, I called him Dr O and Davo. I respected him and admired him. He was a world class tennis player and a world class guy. A real man’s man! He was bigger than life, hex always had a spark in his eye and he enjoyed life to the fullest. He earned all our respect. What an amazing person. I was in awe of him as a 14 year old taking tennis lessons. As good as he was as a player, he was as good or better as a coach. RIP Owen. You will be missed.

What a pleasure it was to talk tennis with Owen. He had such great insights and understanding of the game and his stories were fantastic. We will all miss Davo!
