Pamela Jeanne Meyer Cheng December 1, 1948 - December 14, 2007 Born in Lawrence, KS, to Olive and Marvin Meyer. After her parents' divorce, Pamela and her mother moved to San Francisco. Overwhelmed by declining health and caring for Pamela, Olive asked Aunt Betty and Uncle Douglas Fischer in Menlo Park, CA, to raise Pamela as their oldest child. Pamela attended elementary and high school in Menlo Park and Atherton, and earned a bachelors degree at UC Davis. Living in Palo Alto, she started her career at Stanford University; she later moved to Napa with her de-facto parents. Obtaining employment at San Quentin State Prison, Pamela moved to Petaluma. Upon marrying Tony Cheng, she moved to San Quentin's onsite housing, and finished her career there after 18 years. Tony's passing in June 2007 renewed her desire to be close to Betty and relatives in Napa, now including nieces and nephew: Phoebe, Annabel and Sam. Pamela loved talking with Phoebe about philosophical matters, deepening their special relationship by sharing a love of reading and history. Preceded in death by husband Tony, "Daddy" Douglas Fischer (2004), and her natural mother and father (early 2007). Pam is survived by Aunt Betty, Napa; brothers and sisters (legally "cousins"), Alan, Douglas, Nancy, Betsy and Charles Fischer, all of the Bay Area; nieces, Jessica Fischer Wheeler and Nicole Fischer; great-nieces, Catrina Jimenez and Kari Wheeler, all of Oakley; stepchildren, Cheston Cheng and Novia Cheng-Garcia, and step-grandchilden, Jessica Cheng and Ethan Garcia. Pam also leaves behind devoted longtime friends, Marla Shelley, AZ, and Janet Sencenbaugh of Palo Alto. Both were always available and supportive of Pam no matter what life dealt. Other devoted friends include Michelle, Debbie, Diane, Doreen and many more from San Quentin offering unconditional support after Tony's passing. Also surviving is Pamela's favorite cat, Sophie, who though traumatized by Pam's passing is now adjusting well and reunited with Pam and Tony's four other cats, all now in Betty's care. Memorial service on Jan. 19, 10:30am at Adobe Creek Funeral Home, 331 Lakeville St., Petaluma, 707-789-9000. In lieu of flowers, please honor Pamela with donations to your local animal shelter or spay/neuter clinic.
